Seminar & Forum TCS SG LEE Hee-sup delivered remarks at the East Asia Cooperation Forum 2024

The East Asia Cooperation Forum 2024, hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, was held in Seoul, Korea on October 31, 2024. Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) Secretary-General LEE Hee-sup attended the forum to deliver congratulatory remarks. Under the theme “Trilateral Cooperation and Beyond – Responding to Common Challenges for Future Generations of East Asia”, the forum invited speakers from Korea and abroad to discuss on the expanding scope of trilateral cooperation in areas of cooperation and agents. Deputy Minister CHUNG Byung-won of the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Professor CHUN Chaesung of Seoul National University delivered opening remarks and a welcome speech respectively.
In his remarks, SG LEE highlighted the significant milestone of the 25th anniversary of trilateral cooperation. He noted the challenges and achievements of trilateral relations, emphasizing the need for deeper trust to overcome political tensions and recent complex issues such as climate change, de-globalization, and demographic shifts. He underscored commitments such as expanding the CAMPUS Asia exchange program and fostering "Trilateral+X cooperation" with international partners to promote shared prosperity. Concluding, he addressed the importance of exploring ways to build mutual understanding and sustain the momentum of recent summits for future progress.
The following three sessions invited scholars and experts have in-dept discussions focusing on low birth rate-ageing society, climate change-energy-environment, and cooperation of future generation.
