Mechanisms TCS Attended the 8th Trilateral Business Summit in Seoul, ROK

The 8th Trilateral Business Summit was held in Seoul, ROK on May 27, 2024. The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Keidanren of Japan and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) co-convened the Business Summit in conjunction with the 9th Trilateral Summit. Around 280 government, business, and industry representatives from the three countries attended. TCS Secretary-General LEE Hee-sup as well as Deputy Secretaries-General ZUSHI Shuji and YAN Liang were also in attendance.
President of the Republic of Korea YOON Suk Yeol, Prime Minister of Japan KISHIDA Fumio and Premier of China LI Qiang attended the special session and delivered remarks. The three leaders presented constructive proposals for future economic cooperation among the three countries based on the discussions at the 9th trilateral summit held earlier on the same day.
During the meeting, the Chairmen of KCCI, Keidanren and CCPIT delivered remarks. The meeting also invited renowned business representatives to provide insights around the two main themes of “Economic Revitalization” and “Sustainable Development”.
As a result of the meeting, the three business associations adopted the Joint Statement of the 8th Trilateral Business Summit to support the implementation of the 9th Trilateral Summit and the deliverables from the Business Summit. The Joint Statement calls for the economic community’s commitment to cooperate in digital transition, trade revitalization, supply chain stabilization to revitalize the economy, and to actively promote cooperation in green transformation, response to aging, and medical care for sustainable development. In addition, to further develop the Trilateral Business Summit into a private economic cooperation meeting among the three countries, the three associations agreed to establish a private consultative body mainly comprising of economic associations, where participants will periodically study and discuss trade issues.
The Trilateral Business Summit has been convened continuously since the 2nd Trilateral Summit held in Beijing, China in 2009, to expand economic cooperation and exchanges in Northeast Asia. The Business Summit had been suspended in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic since the 8th meeting in Chengdu, China in December 2019 and resumed after four years and five months in Seoul, ROK. The next meeting will be held in Japan.
