TC Activities The Closing Ceremony of the 2017 East Asian Cultural Cities in Kyoto, Japan

On November 19, 2017, the TCS delegation headed by the Deputy Secretary-General HAN Mei attended the Closing Ceremony of 2017 East Asian Cultural Cities (EACC) held in Kyoto, Japan which celebrates the remarkable achievements of the diverse cultural events and exchanges took place among Kyoto (Japan), Changsha (China), and Daegu (ROK) throughout the year.
The Closing Ceremony of Kyoto was attended by the representatives of the three cities including Mayor Mayor KADOKAWA Daisaku of Kyoto, Mayor KWON Young-jin of Daegu, and Deputy Director Zhang Zhiyong of the Standing Committee of Changsha People’s Congress. The three representatives announced the EACC 2017 Kyoto Declaration that promises continued partnership and exchange among the three 2017 EACCs.
The Ceremony demonstrated fascinating culture & arts of the three countries including traditional dance and music performance by Kyoto’s Kyonokai, Changsha Municipal Art Company, and Daegu Municipal Korean Classical Performing Arts Group. The Ceremony ended with a grand finale with the choir of Kyoto Echo joined by the representatives and artists of the three EACCs.
East Asian Cultural Cities (EACC) is a trilateral initiative designed to practice the idea of ‘East Asian spirit, cultural exchange and convergence, and appreciation of other cultures’ with respect to cultural diversity among the three countries. Since 2014, three countries have designated one city in each as the EACC every year at the Trilateral Culture Ministers’ Meeting.
The TCS this year supported the activities of the 2017 EACCs through various ways including the support for the exhibition of ‘Flower of 808 commonly-used Chinese Character’ during the Asian Corridor Contemporary Art Exhibition held in August to October in Kyoto, Japan.
