On April 19, 2025, Secretary-General of the TCS LEE Hee-sup met with Party Secretary of Anyang Municipal Committee YUAN Jiajian on the sidelines of 2025 China (Anyang) International Conference of Chinese Characters. KIM Jingon, Minister-Counselor of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in China, and BAEK Inah, Consul at the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Wuhan, also attended the meeting.
LEE Hee-sup underscored the profound influence of Chinese characters in fostering cultural exchange among China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea. The Trilateral Common Vocabulary Forum, as the first initiative following the launch of the 2025–2026 China-Japan-ROK Year of Cultural Exchange, was described as a timely and meaningful platform for dialogue. Appreciation was expressed for Anyang City’s valuable support in co-hosting the forum.
YUAN Jiajian introduced Anyang as an ancient city that once served as the capital of seven dynasties, renowned for the Oracle Bone Inscriptions and the Yinxu Ruins of the Shang Dynasty. He highlighted the city’s longstanding ties with local governments in Japan and the Republic of Korea, noting that these connections extend beyond cultural exchange to include economic and trade cooperation. He also expressed hope for continued collaboration between Anyang and the TCS to further promote cultural exchange through Chinese characters.
