The 9th Environment Working Group Meeting of Organization for East Asia Economic Development (OEAED) was held in Ulsan, ROK from May 19-20, 2014 with the participation of government officials and business representatives from 10 member cities of OEAED around the Yellow Sea Rim, namely, Ulsan, Busan and Incheon of ROK; Kitakyushu, Shimonoseki and Fukuoka of Japan; and Dalian, Qingdao, Tianjin and Yantai of China. The Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) participated in the Meeting for the first time.
At the Meeting, the member cities exchanged views on each city’s energy policy, had discussions on environment quality improvement through promotion of green economy, and agreed to cooperate on the following items:
1. Promoting energy saving measures and air pollution reduction policies
2. Expediting the Trilateral Circular Economy Model base
3. Implementing sea-shore cleanup projects and turn-off-light campaign as low-carbonization measures
The member cities also agreed on the three activity themes as well as host cities of the Environment Working Group Meeting for the next three years as follows: water treatment measures in 2015 (Kitakyushu), soil contamination measures in 2016 (Dalian) and waste-disposal measures in 2017 (Busan).
