Others SG IWATANI Shigeo Paid Visit to International Organizations in Beijing 2015-07-16
On July 16, 2015 Secretary-General Iwatani Shigeo paid a courtesy visit to Shanghai Cooperation Organization Secretariat (SCO) in Beijing and met with its Deputy Secretary-General Mr. Imandosov Sabyr Aydarbeckovich. SG Iwatani introduced the development of trilateral cooperation and TCS’ latest activities, by emphasizing the effort to facilitate political and security cooperation in the region. Mr. Aydarbeckovich briefed on the functions of SCO, which primarily focuses on counter-terrorism and confidence building, and highlighted the major achievements of 2015 SCO Summit. The two sides agreed to further exchange and explore potential agendas for cooperation in relevant areas. 

Mr. Iwatani also had a joint meeting with Dr. Jurgen Steiger, Acting Deputy Country Director of GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) and Ms. WANG Weina, Director of Greater Tumen Initiative (GTI) Secretariat at the GIZ China office. The three parties exchanged information of organizations’ structures, projects and activities in various sectors such as transport, economic integration and local government cooperation. SG Iwatani also explained trilateral cooperative mechanisms and TCS’ roles in trilateral cooperation. At the meeting, future cooperation among the three organizations was also discussed and the three agreed to strengthen the relationship by exchanging information.
