Others SG YANG Houlan Paid an Outreach Visit to ASEAN

Secretary-General YANG Houlan visited Laos and Indonesia on February 20-24, 2016. This outreach visit provided an opportunity for TCS to promote the progress of trilateral cooperation among the ASEAN countries, and to strengthen its cooperative partnerships with the ASEAN counterparts under the ASEAN+3 framework.
SG Yang paid a courtesy called to H.E. Alounkeo KITTIKHOUN, the Vice Minister and ASEAN SOM Leader of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Laos. Acknowledging the importance of 2016 as the starting point of ASEAN community building process, SG Yang congratulated Laos for successfully assuming this year’s ASEAN chairmanship. VM Kittikhoun reaffirmed Laos’ support for TCS to continue participating in the ASEAN+3 consultations. The two sides also exchanged views on the prospect of regional economic integration with an emphasis on swift conclusion of Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
In Jakarta, SG Yang had a meeting with H.E. Le Luong MINH, Secretary-General of the ASEAN Secretariat. They shared the view that further advancement of trilateral cooperation and ASEAN Community respectively would generate synergy effect for ASEAN+3 cooperation. The two Secretariats agreed to keep close communication to explore and implement cooperative projects, such as co-organizing seminar or workshop on issues of interest for the ASEAN+3 countries.
Furthermore, SG Yang met with the Heads of Chinese and Japanese Embassies to Laos and the Heads of Missions of China, Japan, and the ROK to ASEAN. Various issues including establishing East Asian Economic Community by 2020 were discussed during the meetings. In addition to the on-going projects such as CAMPUS Asia, the dignitaries put forward some news ideas for three countries’ cooperation with the ASEAN side and SG Yang also exchanged views with them on possible future role for TCS within the ASEAN+3 framework.
