Others Promotion Event for Trilateral Common Vocabulary Dictionary in Japan 2018-08-27
TCS co-organized Promotion Event for Trilateral Common Vocabulary Dictionary with The Japan Kanji Aptitude Testing Foundation in Kanji Museum, Kyoto, Japan on August 27, 2018. Deputy Secretary-General HAN Mei of Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat, Mr. KOSAKA Setsuzo, President of The Japan Kanji Aptitude Testing Foundation and Mr. MATSUZAKA Hiroshi, Director of Headquarters for Vitalizing Regional Culture, Agency for Cultural Affairs attended the Event and delivered the Remarks. 

 


TCS Deputy Secretary-General HAN Mei delivered the Opening Remarks and underscored the significance of Chinese Characters in promoting mutual communication among the three countries for thousand years. She also pointed out that TCVD project is the first-ever trial of compilation work for the common vocabulary dictionary as joint collaboration among the three countries, and gave her expectation on TCVD’s wide usage among the people for various purposes. President KOSAKA Setsuzo introduced the background of 808 commonly-used Chinese Characters as a starting point of making TCVD, and committed himself to providing continuous support for TCS’ relevant activities in the future. Director MATSUZAKA Hiroshi emphasized the Chinese Characters as a useful communication tool among the people of the three countries, and hoped that TCVD can be helpful on occasions of consecutive organization of Olympics Games in the three countries as well as for the huge number of visitors from China and the ROK to Kyoto. 

 


Following the opening ceremony, Open Lecture on Trilateral Common Vocabularies was held where prominent professor SATO Koetsu from Tsukuba University featured the similarities and differences of common vocabularies among the three countries. Prof. SATO also made some comments on the TCVD and gave examples of common words to elaborate its history roots on how the formats and meanings have been changed and different from each other nowadays. 

 


The Promotion Event brought together more than 70 participants including people from Chinese characters related institutions, students, scholars, media and visitors of Kanji Museum. The TCS will continue to promote TCVD in wide range and is planning to distribute the publications to public organizations including governmental organizations, national libraries, universities and educational institutions of the three countries.
