On February 1, 2018, the TCS Board paid a courtesy call on H.E. Ms. KANG Kyung-wha, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea (ROK) to introduce the members of the 4th Consultative Board and exchanged viewpoints on the significance of trilateral cooperation.

Secretary-General LEE Jong-heon expressed appreciation to Minister KANG for the ROK government’s continued support and guidance for the TCS as a Host Country of the Secretariat. Highlighting that the TCS has entered the stage of broadening the scope of cooperation at various levels, SG LEE reaffirmed the TCS’ commitment to facilitating consultative mechanisms and exploring more promising programs to play a bridging role for peace and prosperity of this region. He also noted with anticipation that the Trilateral Summit, as the biggest driving force to push trilateral cooperation forward, can be resumed at an earliest date possible.

Minister KANG spoke highly of the TCS’ roles, underlining that its work has been instrumental for the development of trilateral cooperation. She stressed that the TCS has a great potential to play more active roles particularly in technical areas of cooperation such as disaster management which is a good place to further build on cooperation. She also encouraged the TCS to be engaged in the promotion of upcoming Olympics to be held in the three countries in the next consecutive years. With regard to the recent development in inter-Korean relations made on the occasion of Pyeongchang Olympics, Minister KANG reiterated that it is in line with the longer-term global goal of denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, which will create a momentum for peaceful resolution of North Korean nuclear issues. She assured that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of ROK will continue to support the TCS and expressed her hope that the three countries can agree on the date of the Summit soon.
