TC Activities“Culture City of East Asia” (CCEA) 2024 Gimhae Opening CeremonyOn April 22, 2024, Culture City of East Asia(CCEA) 2024 Gimhae Opening Ceremony was held at Gimhae Culture Center. The ceremony was hosted by Gimhae City and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of the ROK. Around 1,200 participants including the representatives from the 2024 CCEAs host cities, officials from the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, individuals from the arts and culture industry, and Gimhae citizens attended the event. The Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) was also invited to join the welcome reception and the opening ceremony. At the welcome reception, TCS DSG ZUSHI Shuji delivered a toast remarks alongside other dignitaries including Gimhae Mayor HONG Tae yong and Consul General of China in Busan, CHEN Ribiao. DSG ZUSHI extended congratulations to Gimhae City as it commenced its journey as the CCEA for 2024. Emphasizing Gimhae City's historical and cultural significance as the heart of ancient Geumgwan Gaya on the Korean Peninsula and its deep connections with Japan, he expressed hopes for increased exchanges between Gimhae City and the TCS to further enhance cooperation among China, Japan, and Korea.During the opening ceremony, Mayor HONG Tae-yong highlighted how the unique cultures of China, Japan, and Korea have thrived through mutual embrace. He expressed hope for Gimhae City, along with its neighbors China and Japan, to extend the values of coexistence and peace globally. He also anticipated fostering greater unity among the three countries through diverse cultural exchanges to be organized throughout the year. Vice Mayor XU Lei of Weifang City, Vice Secretary-General ZHANG Xiaofeng of Dalian City, and Vice Mayor KOUNO Katsuya of Munakata City in Japan delivered congratulatory speeches.Following the speeches, traditional performances showcasing the cultures of each city were also staged to commemorate the opening of CCEA2024 Gimhae.*Since 2014, China, Japan, and the ROK have each designated one or two cities as CCEA, engaging in trilateral cultural exchanges annually following an agreement made at the 4th Trilateral Culture Ministers' Meeting (TCMM) in 2012. Weifang City and Dalian City of China, and Ishikawa Prefecture of Japan, were selected as CCEA for 2024 alongside Gimhae City. However, due to difficulties arising from the earthquake recovery efforts earlier in the year, Ishikawa Prefecture was unable to attend, and Munakata City, the sister city of Gimhae City, participated in the opening ceremony instead.▲DSG ZUSHI delivering toast remarks at the welcome reception▲Group Photo2024.04.22

Others2045 Fellowship visited the Trilateral Cooperation SecretariatOn April 19, 2024, the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) received a delegation of undergraduate and graduate students from Korean Universities affiliated to the 2045 Fellowship Program. The 2045 Fellowship aims to foster leaders who will lead Korea in public fields such as politics, diplomacy, and economy. The visit to TCS was organized as one of the monthly sessions held during a 7 month long leadership program including a Leadership Summit and Team Projects. In his opening remarks, TCS Secretary-General LEE Hee-sup metaphorically explained the interconnectivity of China, Japan and ROK through the idiom “if you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together”. Positioned as inseparable geographic neighbors, the three countries are bound not only by proximity but also by a shared history, culture, and economic interdependence, and their journey ahead shall be undertaken together, he stated. TCS staff introduced the history of trilateral cooperation, the role of TCS, and ongoing trilateral cooperation projects in the areas of political, economic, and socio-cultural affairs. OthersDeputy Secretary-General ZUSHI Shuji Met with Deputy Secretary LI Jian of CPC Shuangliu District CommitteeOn April 19, 2024, Deputy Secretary-General ZUSHI Shuji of Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) received an official delegation from Shuangliu District Government of Chengdu, China in TCS office, headed by Mr. LI Jian, Deputy Secretary of CPC Shuangliu District Committee. Deputy Secretary LI Jian briefed on the socio-cultural development of Shuangliu District in recent years, highlighting their advanced industries in the areas of aviation, ICT and bio-medicine. Underscoring their rich culture and similarity with Japan and Korean in traditions, he looked forward to working together with TCS for closer ties of Shuangliu District with Japan and Korea. Deputy Secretary-General ZUSHI spoke highly of the well-established partnership between TCS and Chengdu Municipal People’s Government, and extended appreciation on Shuangliu District’s support to TCS previously. Mentioning TCS’ work plan in collaboration with Chengdu, especially the upcoming ‘Culture City of East Asia’ Social Media Influencers’ Tour to be held in Chengdu, he anticipated more cooperative opportunities with Shuangliu District in near future. MechanismsDirector General-level Consultation Meeting for the 4th Trilateral Ministerial Meeting on Water ResourcesOn April 15, 2024, the 2nd Consultative Meeting for the 4th Trilateral Ministerial Meeting on Water Resources was held in Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) conference hall.As a follow-up of the working-level consultation meeting was held online on January 30th, delegations headed by Director General-level officials of China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea, (Ministry of Water Resources of China, Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Korea, and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan) and TCS joined together to discuss the preparation of the upcoming Ministerial Meeting which will be held in May 2024.During the meeting, detailed arrangements and the text of the joint statement were reviewed by the Director General level officials. TCS Deputy Secretary-General YAN Liang delivered opening remarks by warmly welcoming the delegates from CJK, emphasizing the importance of reconnection and recommitment to shared objectives among the participating countries. He highlighted the significance of this meeting as it marks the first face-to-face interaction in six years since the last Ministerial Meeting on Water Resources in 2018.
